allright... so I was voted to start the second rp... in this one there will be only two sides... a group of evil knights, known as the Order of the Black Rose, who are after pieces of a map to a lost city... and the good guys, who'll be named whatever, who are either protecting the map or trying to rid the world of these villains...

Order of the Black Rose
Mordred - leader (Cimerii)
Groknar - Mordred's pet (Cimerii)
Jeran (Phoenix)

Good Guys
Sserath (Cimerii) (sorry for using the wrong brother at the start...)
Fatez - currently pretending to be evil (Zee)
Tamora (Phoenix)

The night was cool and calm, with a soft breeze blowing in the scents of the sea. The stars twinkled serenely above, and the moon shined full upon Heimdal's Keep. Sserath sat perched in the shadows of an alley, his black scales the perfect camouflage. He watched calmly as the brigands assaulted an old librarian.

"I... I don't know what you're talking about!" The poor man pleaded.

"Give it up Garth," one of the brigands said, "the old fool doesn't know anything."

The pair stabbed the old librarian, and then left him for dead. Sserath watched them walk down the street, before slowly slipping farther into the alley. This was the third attack upon scholars this week. Sserath was quite certain he knew what they were looking for. Word had spread of a group of dark paladins recently arrived, who were searching for maps of any kind dating back to the second era, and they would pay handsomely for such maps. Sserath had his own sources of course, and knew they would not be able to find the maps they sought the way they currently were searching. He could only hope that they never became any wiser.

It was tough to keep up with Wolf. His muscles rippled under his sleek, gray fur, his paws barely touching the ground before being lifted into the air again in big, bounding strides. Wolf had a knack for picking up the scent of blood -- human blood to be exact, and where there was blood, there was usually someone in trouble. Tamora ran after the gray figure, her steps not nearly as quiet compared to Wolf's. She clutched her staff in her hand, thumb on the switch, ready to produce it's sharp, dangerous blades. There had been two attacks previously, both people had been dead before she arrrived. Tamora hoped dearly she wasn't too late as Wolf began to slow down. She recognized the building in front of her to be a library.

She pulled up next to Wolf, laying a hand on his furry neck, as he looked off into a distant alley growling, his golden eyes trained on something she couldn't see. Tamora followed his gaze, staring intently at the shadows, but saw nothing. She didn't have time to see if someone was there though. She saw the body of an old man, lying on the cold cobblestone. She ran past Wolf and kneeled down next to the librarian's body, checking his pulse. She waiting a few moments, eyes closed, hoping, praying that he would be alive.

There was no such luck. The librarian was dead and the mystery behind the attacks remained.

Sserath looked on as the wolf and girl found the librarian's body from a roof several buildigs away. He had nothing to fear from the pair of them, it was a simple thing to lose someone when you could fly. Of course, he couldn't take completely to the air, but he could still cover large enough spans to cause the wolf to lose his scent.

This was moot though, as they weren't the threat Sserath was here to deal with. Which was a slight problem, as he didn't even know who he was supposed to be stopping.

Mordred listened silently as a thief tried to sell a map to his sargeant. It was nothing like he wanted, a map a few years old detailing the western seas. He sighed softly, this search was proving fruitless.

Groknar nudged against Mordred, looking hungrily at the oblivious thief. Mordred examined the thief, he was a fool, and a horrid thief. Shrugging, Mordred waved his hand, and Groknar leapt upon the thief. Mordred's sargeant tucked away the map quickly, saving it from Groknar's messy eating habbits.

"Have we heard anything that sounds remotely to what we're searching for?" Mordred asked tiredly.

"No sir."

Mordred turned his gaze upon Groknar, watching as the lykos tugged and pounced on the body as its death throws subsided. "Summon Fatez here, maybe she has heard something."

Tamora sighed deeply and sat down on the steps that led up to the library. The blood ran like miniscule rivers between the cracks of the cobblestone, gathering dirt and ants as its viscous body traveled slowly. Wolf whined beside her, the stench in the air tempting to him.

"A'ight Wolf," Tamora sighed again. "Just wait a sec." Using her staff to support her, she pushed herself to her feet, absentmindedly scratching her companion behind his ear, his tail wagging slightly at her touch.

Tamora gazed up at the clear sky, illuminated by the millions of tiny pinprick stars. She had no doubt that there would be another target, be it soon or in a few months, and she was determined that she wouldn't let them die without at least learning what this was all about...

*****

Jeran watched the thief being mauled by Groknar, his gurgling screams cut off almost instantly as the Lykos went for his throat. It was a short scene, but amusing nevertheless. The petty thief didn't stand a chance. Jeran leaned back against the wall, a satisfied smirk appearing under on his lips, hidden by the shadows the cowl of his black cloak cast on his face. With all the activity going on, he could tell the next few weeks were going to be fun...

Fatez sped through the village after being summoned. Being late was a no-no. She stopped at the sight of Mordred, afraid for a second that he might have figured out her disguise. Luckily, it seemed that he hasn't, yet. "Information?" Fatez stammered, pretending to be caught off-guard, "I'm sorry, m'lord, the information is hidden quite well. I'm afraid I haven't gotten any whiff of knowledge yet, although I am quite sure I will soon."

Fatez made her breath quick and shallow, although her mind flowed smoothly through the options she had open. What she had said wasn't strictly true, she did have a lead, although she wanted to run it through Ssierko before making any other move. So far, this charade was working.

Hopefully anyways.

Sserath waited calmly at The Merchant's Inn for Fatez. If she could, this was where they'd meet tonight. It always changed, but it still followed a pattern; which Sserath was never trully comfortable with. Perhaps tonight would be the night she was finally caught, Sserath thought idly. The idea didn't bother him in the least. Fatez was a tool to an end, nothing more nothing less. He had at least some information on the order, but not nearly enough. Perhaps Fatez should wait another day before getting herself killed.

Mordred sighed, truly tired of all this hunting in the dark. "Continue as you are Fatez, something will turn up soon, if at all." He turned back to Groknar, who was contently chewing on the leg of the late thief. "Comer Groknar, you're getting fat and need the exercise."

Groknar turned looking hurt. He got up and took a few steps, before pausing to stare forlornly at the body. "It'll be there when we get back," Mordred said lightly. Goknar, slightly mollified by that statement, went willingly out into the night with its master.

Jeran stood up. The day would be uneventful if he didn't do anything now. Perhaps he could even find more information on these maps Mordred was searching so desperately for. It wasn't like he had anything better to do. He smiled to himself as his black cloak swept behind him and he left the camp towards the city. Maybe he could even wreak a little havoc on his quest...

Mordred walked the silent streets with Groknar beside him. The night was chilly, but not so cold as to be uncomfortable. The pair walked down an alley, wandering aimlessly. The smell from the trences and trash heaped on either sie of them bothered Groknar, who wined softly between sneezes. It didn't bother Mordred though, he simply closed his mind to it.

The pair came to an alley running between two warehouses. Crates and barrels no longer fit for shipping contents clutterd the alley, forming a relative maze to the street ahead. Groknar padded ahead, happily sniffing the crates for any rats or other morsels.

When they came to the street, where Mordred stopped and leaned against the building. Groknar ran on ahead to the other warehouses, sometimes snapping and lunging after mice or cats. The cutthroat almost snuck up on Mordred as he watched Groknar at play. He turned lazily when the thief was only a few feet away, his gaze almost bored.

"Your money or your life stranger," the thief said in a raspy voice. The thief had a sweet sickly smell coming from him, and stood uneasily on his feet. The hand that held the dagger shaked unsteadily before him. Though it was difficult to tell, Mordred thought the man's clothes were wet; probably from a combination of things he'd sooner not imagine.

Groknar was by Mordred's side in a flash, the hound's lips pulled back to reveal rows of sharp teeth. With the moon glinting in the lykos' eyes, he had a truly terrifying look.

Mordred glanced at his loyal comanion, before slowly turning his attention back to the would-be thief. Seemingly moving with the same lazy speed, Mordred hurled a dagger into the man's chest. He fell lifeless to the ground, a suprised look on his face.

Groknar approached tentavily, sniffing the body with repulsion. Satisfied, the lykos walked away. Mordred stood a moment more, before turning and walking away from the scene. His eyes still carrying the same bored expression as when he started his walk.

Fatez left as Mordred and Groknar went away. Looking at the town clock, she saw that she had only a few minutes to keep that appointment with Sserath. Arriving just as Sserath was leaving, she tapped him on the shouldar and murmured, "I have some information for you."

Sserath turned to look at Fatez as she tapped his shoulder. "Surprised you could reach that high up at all." He said mockingly.

Fatez scowled at Sserath. "If you want the information then I'd recommend watching you manners."

"Of course your highness," a slight smile creased Sserath's face. "But we don't have time for this at the moment." He said suddenly more serious. "What have you found?"

"I'm not sure," Fatez replied, a puzzled look on her face. "It was in a book at one of the sages guilds. A bunch of fairy tales as far as I could tell, but there was a reference to Luna Ravenstar, the only known survivor of the Battle of Moria, that... didn't seem to fit."

"What was the reference?" Sserath asked. "At this point anything might be helpful."

"'Luna Ravenstar used it first and last, but had no knowledge of it. Those who built it, would never have need of it. Lost and forgotten in the days to come, her words will help lead the way to the Last City.'" Fatez recited from memory.

Sserath puzzled over this, before turning back to Fatez. "See if you can't find anything else about Luna Ravenstar. And pray that this will actually lead us somewhere." Sserath called out as Fatez turned to leave.

PostSubject: Re: Black Rose RP   Fri Oct 03, 2008 7:02 pm

(OOC: Whew. Really long one.))

Jeran left the man writhing in pain on the streets. He was clearly a scholar, and by the way he walked, and the route he took (which just happened to be a dark, mysterious alleyway where it would be rare they would encounter anyone) he obviously had something to hide. The man hadn't exactly done anything to upset him. No, he'd just been in the wrong place at the wrong time, carrying something he wanted. Jeran bent down calmly over him and plucked the dart from his neck calmly. The dart itself, after all, wasn't what was going to kill him. It was the poison it would inject into its victim that would do the job. Slowly. Painfully. And if they survived, which so far, none of them have, they would be crippled for the rest of their lives. As it was, the scholar's writhing reached a climax. His back arched in pain, and he exhaled his last breath. He wouldn't move again.

That's the part Jeran loved the most: The final sigh of life leaving the body, the soul freed from any bounds to the earth. Quickly, he searched the body. Nothing. Jeran cursed to himself. Something had to be here somewhere. His head jerked up suddenly as the sound of footsteps reached his ears. He stood still for a moment before determining the foot steps were heading his way. Cursing again, he pulled the cloak farther over his face and sank into the shadows. If they caused any trouble, he would kill them too. For now, he just hoped that they would pass by the body. The dead wasn't exactly rare around here.

* * * * *

It was by complete accident that Tamora and Wolf came across the scholar's dead body. He hadn't been bleeding after all. They had taken this route because it was dark, mysterious and unlikely they would encounter anyone. The last thing they expected to find was a dead body. By the looks of him, he was a scholar. Without thinking, Tamora rushed up to see what happened. There weren't any gashes, bruises, fractures, broken bones that she could see. Then she saw it. A small hole in the side of his neck. Tamora frowned and looked at Wolf. He was looking around somewhat nervously, his tail between his legs, his nose working furiously. He seemed to be looking for the owner of a scent he couldn't quite place. He looked about as frustrated as a wolf could look.

Tamora was equally frustrated. Another death that didn't get them anywhere. She looked down at the body gloomily before something caught her eye that she hadn't seen before. It was a plain, brown book. There was no writing on the front or the back. Curious, she picked it up and opened to a random page. As she did so, another piece of paper fell out. Tamora blinked for a moment, staring blankly at it. It was the same, yellowed color as the pages as the book, yet something about it was different. Even more curious, Tamora placed the book down gently and picked up the paper.

She completely missed the dart that flew a few inches over her head.

* * * * *

Jeran couldn't believe it. He missed. But he couldn't worry about that now. The sound of the dart flying through the air had drawn the wolf's attention. And he hadn't missed the carefully disguised weapon that was the girl's staff. Oh, no, he may have missed her, but he wouldn't miss that. It was carefully disguised. Maybe too carefully disguised. The girl was armed, for sure, and he wasn't one for fights. He liked it better when his own life wasn't at risk.

But she intrigued him. She had a wolf, after all. What was not to be intrigued about? She was also incredibly lcuky, he added bitterly. She intrigued him almost as much as the small piece of paper did. He had sensed it too. It was... different. It had a more ancient air about it.

As Jeran fled, the thoughts about the fact that he had missed his target were pushes aside by these new ones. Jeran would meet this girl again. He'd make sure of it.

Sserath watched from a nearby roof as the scholar he was supposed to meet was killed by a thief. Cursing his luck, Sserath drew out his hand-held crossbow. It was smaller than most, and the bolt would hardly be considered lethal, but the poison the tip was coated with was a strong paralyzing agent. Sserath crept slowly and carefully across the roof. He needed to be closer for the crossbow bolt to penetrate clothes, another drawback to this small size was the lack of range and power.

When Sserath finally had the thief in range, he dissapeared farther into the shadows. Sserath fumed silently, the last thing he needed was ANOTHER interloper. He watched, silent and unobserved as the girl with the wolf inspected the body. It didn't take her long to find a book, and the piece of paper within it. Although Sserath was slightly relieved it was she who had gotten it, he could not believe his horrid luck.

Sserath continued to watch the girl as she studied the paper. She didn't know what she had; of course, neither did Sserath for that matter. He would have to get to her before anyone else could, and since the other thief had already fled, Sserath prayed at least one thing might still go his way.

Mordred poured over another series of maps, these at least seeming to be about the correct age he needed. A glow globe sat in a pedestal on his desk, as a candle's flame would be too risky around these ancient maps. Mordred leaned back, rubbing his eyes to relieve them from the glow globe's unusual light. Mordred looked over to Groknar. The lykos was curled on a rug before the lit hearth, a skull nestled between its paws and head. Mordred turned back to the maps, thinking he needed to stop spoiling Groknar so much.

It was another hour pouring over the maps, before Mordred found something of slight interest. The piece was quite intriguing as it seemed to be only a third of a map, and it wasn't even paper. Mordred ran his finger over the skin, amazed that it had lasted this long at all. It was well tanned, obviously done by a professional, which could be part of the reason it had lasted so long.

Leaving nothing to chance, Mordred got up and headed over to his book case. He took a small chest off one of the shelves and brought it back to the desk. Lifting the lid almost reverently, he revealed a thin rimmed pair of glasses. Putting them on, Mordred looked again at the skin, and wasn't surprised to see the blue aura around it. Satisfied that the skin was enchanted, he returned the glasses to their case, and turned his attention to the tattoos on the skin.

Mordred couldn't be sure what he had, no matter how he turned the skin, the writing was in a language he could not understand. The only clear thing was that it was a map; the compass rose, and the body of water on the side were clear indications of that.

(You guys sure are making it very dark......and very hard to join...*sighs* I'll find an opportunity for Zamethyst sometime)

Isaiah made sure Sserath had left before continuing to look at Fatez, wondering if she was friend or foe. If only he had Zamethyst's hearing, them he could tell what she said.

He remembered seeing Fatez in a few meetings, but nobody ever mentioned she was a spy, and if she was an ally of his, she had done a good job not getting caught.....
Speaking of getting caught, if he didn't come up with somthing soon, he was either going to look suspicious or die for being inefficient. He did find something though, Zamethyst had shown him an old book about the Ravenstar family's past that seemed to have somthing to do with the lost city.

Isaiah could feel the cold night wind slap against his body, he wished that the world wasn't so dark, that people would stop using each other as tools, and there would be more trust and laughter. Zamethyst always laughed at him and said the wish was too naive, but he knew he could make it come true, there was one way to do it...Just one way

((OOC: Sorry Zane. D: Somehow darker RPs are so much more entertaining though.))

For the next few hours, Tamora couldn't shake the feeling that she was being followed. More than once, Wolf had spun around to face a shadowy corner, teeth bared and snarling, only to turn back to her with a slightly annoyed look and a wolfish shrug as if to say, "Sorry, false alarm." Her nervousness increased greatly. She could feel the goosebumps appearing on her arms. She wanted to break into a run and get to a safer spot where there would be more people. She restrained herself from doing so, but couldn't help checking over her shoulder once in a while. At least the sun was finally beginning to rise.

For the third time, Wolf spun around, hackles raised, a rumbling, throaty growl emerging through his bared fangs while he took up a defensive stance. Tamora was getting sick of this. If someone was following her, she wanted to know who. If they were going to kill her, she wouldn't be going down without a fight. If t hey didn't... well, she just hoped they were a good fighter themselves because she was going to attack first and ask question later.

Without hesitation, she pressed the switch on her staff...

Sserath cracked a rare smile. Tamora and her wolf stood facing the way they had come, expectant to see someone or something. Sserath found it quite amusing that he had moved ahead of them only a few moments before the decided to make this stand. Sserath began toying with the idea of revealing himself, afraid for her welfare, but mostly afraid of losing the book.

Just as she began to ease her stance, he dropped from the roofs. Immediately, she turned on him, blade staff leading her way. Sserath almost laughed at the futility of her situation; a staff in a cramped alleyway was not the best weapon. Add to that her wolf was now trapped behind her, she had already lost any advantage she had.

Sserath pulled his short sword from its sheath, and in one quick flurry, pinned Tamora and her staff against a wall. With a whip of his tail and a well placed kick, he was also able to knock out the wolf. His mission after all was not to kill them.

"First off," Sserath began in his voice soft hissing voice, "never attack a prince of the Dragoon Empire. Secondly, a staff is a horrible weapon in an alleyway. Third, I believe you have something of mine."

Tamora's breath caught in her throat as she watched Wolf kicked out of the way and he didn't get up.

"Wolf" She cried, struggling for a moment as the Dragoon hissed in her ear before realizing that if she wanted to escape, she needed a better strategy. She stopped trying to free herself and frowned. She wanted to say "Who are you?" but that wouldn't have been right. He'd already told her: Prince of the Dragoon Empire... Interesting. What was he doing here then? He wanted something from her too. But what? That seemed a much more legitimate question.

"I don't know what you're talking about," she said neutrally, looking stright into his green eyes. She winced inside, thinking how horribly cliche that had been and wondered if she could somehow reach for the daggers hidden in her boots.

(Not that I don't like dark stuff.....It's just hard to join, and the good guys look like a bunch of allianceless people, as we see Tamora is fighting Sserath XD/DX)

Zamethyst rested on a branch of a old tree, not daring relax. She had already gone a week without sleep, and was probably going to start dreaming instantly if she closed her eyes.
On her lap was a thick book, its pages yellow and wrinkled from age. She had managed to decode what it was saying, about the Ravenstar family and Capricorn Xendus.(I am starting to make things up......It seems impossoble to write if I don't) The book also mentioned two names, Rhodes and Roscoe. But when the important part came, the next page was nowhere to be seen.
Zamethyst went through the clues she had currently: Rhodes was from old English, meaning 'where roses grow', and Roscoe from ancient Norwegian, it meant 'A forest with deers'.And the missing pages weren't torn off, the were burned. Though she was never close to studying magic, she knew how that only powerful mana and a skilled mage would be able to burn a few pages off a book without ruining the whole thing. Who could it be?

Twilight and the fuss of a squirrel startled her, and she realized she had dozed off.'You must be lucky no one came'She muttered to herself, and set off to meet Isaiah.

Sserath reached casually into Tamora's pack, and removed the book and paper from it. With a quick and deft movement of his arm he threw Tamora near her wolf, while keeping hold of her staff.

"This is what is mine." Sserath said before spreading his wings and taking off into the air. He tossed Tamora her staff when he was safely out of range, then flew off into the night. Sserath flew low over the rooftops, sticking to the lesser used parts of town to avoid being seen. Sserath clutched the book closer to his chest, hoping the price of these secrets were worth the price that had been paid.

Tamora pushed herself halfheartedly into a sitting position as he staff clattered to the ground beside her. She watched as the black Dragoon melted into the sky as he flew with the one item that she'd ever found that seemed to be of significance. Of course, perhaps that's why this whole thing occured. She wouldn't have been attacked if she wasn't carrying anything useful.

Wolf was breathing, alive and relatively unscathed. She leaned down and blew gently into his ear which twitched with annoyance, but he didn' wake up. Tamora sighed. She didn't have the strength to carry him anywhere, so she'd have to wait until he woke up himself. She was quite sure she wouldn't find the Dragoon unless he wanted to be found. It seemed that he might be someone who knew more about this seemingly hopeless situation, and if there was anything she wasnted right now, it was answers.

One way or another Tamora was going to get the answers she needed and if he wouldn't come out of hiding willingly, she'd flush him out forcefully.

Damm, I'm seeing no clear way for the story to go on at all......

Zamethyst arrived at her usual meeting place with Isaiah, a well hidden cave storing most the their things. Expecting it to be found she had set quite a few traps and a big maze that led deep into the mountain.
She pulled her sensed to top motion, no one was following her, there was no one inside either. their belongings remained, and the entrance was still well hidden.
Where are you brother, if you haven't returned? Are you in trouble or have you found something important?

When Fatez looked up to his direction, Isaiah thought he was seen, but she went back to looking around randomly.
What would happen if she finds me? He thought, would she chuck a weapon at the tree to force him to show himself, or simply call? If she dared jump directly on he tree for battle he could beat her easily, but maybe she would be better than him at long-distance battles...
Or maybe they could talk? Isaiah went through a few imaginary conversations with Fatez, they all sounded stupid. Unless one fo them gave in a said who they were, it was going to end up as a battle anyway
Of course, a battle seemed safer than taking 50% chance that a person was friend or foe.

It was a few hours to dawn when Fatez started to walk, he moved along, looking for places to hide and keeping her in sight. But the walk she took seemed endless

Mordred leaned back, clearly agitated. Across from him sat a shaking sage; who was understandably unnerved by Groknar's head in his lap. Between them spread out on the table was the piece of a map Mordred had found. Neither this sage, nor the scholars before him had been able to find what language the map had been written in.

"I'm s-sorry m'lord," the poor man stammered, "but I simply don't know what language this could possibly be."

Mordred nodded in mock sympathy. He carefully rolled up the partial, and waved his hand dismissively. Groknar immediately took the signal. Mordred replaced the map back into his chest as the man's screams echoed through the knight's base.

He turned back to find Jeran leaning casually in the doorway. His eyes were locked onto Groknar as the lykos continued eating its still living meal.

"Jeran," Mordred called, waking the assassin from his amazement, "you have something for me?"

Sserath could not believe THIS was what his informant had died for. "The words are backwards." How was this supposed to help him?! The book had been nothing of course, merely a tome on the politics of eastern elves. It was the paper Sserath had hoped would hold a clue, but if it was supposed to help, it was so inexact that it was not even a use to him. Whatever else may have discovered by Sserath's scholar, it was now lost.

Sserath looked over the city from the roof he rested on. Back to square one, he thought dismally.

"Indeed, my lord," Jeran said with a casual smirk, straightening up as Mordred addressed him. "I do believe I may have found sssome useful information." Jeran paused, slightly more hesitant now. "Unfortunately, the scholar who held the information is dead and the clue taken by a girl with excruciatingly good -- or bad, depending on how you look at it -- luck. She runsss around with a wolf. What she took was nothing more than a ssscrap of paper, but it could posssibly be useful. Is it worth pursssuing, my lord?"

He is useful, Mordred repeated to himself as Jeran gave his report. It took every ounce of Mordred's will not to reveal his displeasure (and possibly not to kill) Jeran. The fool had allowed a possible clue to evade his grasp. Not only that, but another now held possession of it!

"Indeed," Mordred said, his voice neutral and emotionless as always. "Bring me the book and paper. The girl as well, should it prove convenient."

As soon as Jeran left, Mordred took a deep breath. He had almost allowed his anger to rule him, and that was a foolish mistake he could not afford. Emotions were a weakness he would never tolerate. The problem lay in his lack of progress, and the growing impatience of his masters.

"Come Groknar," Mordred called. "Let us enjoy the serenity of the night."

Groknar whined once, glancing forlornly at his still warm meal, but followed Mordred loyally into the night.

Jeran was surprised he'd found the girl so quickly. He had decided to return to the scene of the scholar's death and track her from there, and it shocked him how she hadn't traveled far. It was then that he noticed that the Wolf was unconcious. The girl, herself, looked a little dazed. Jeran quirked an eyebrow, curious about what had happened, but the corners of her mouth still twitched in a smile. In this state, she wouldn't be up for much of a fight. This couldn't be any easier...

* * * * *

Wolf was still unconcious as Tamora finished dragging him to a more concealed hiding place. She frowned as she realized she hadn't moved him as far as she'd have liked, her physical limits leaving her unable to drag Wolf much further. As a full grown, muscular canine, he was too heavy to carry very far. At least she was out of the alley.

Tamora began to feel increasingly uneasy as she walked back to retrieve her staff. She wasn't sure if it was from the after effects of adrenaline, but she didn't want to take any chances. She'd had enough surprises for one day. Tamora winced as she became increasingly aware of how loud her footsteps really were in the echoing alleyway. With shaking hands, She reached into her right boot and pulled out a dagger, feeling it's reassuring weight in her hands.

She heard a dark chuckle behind her and spun around as gloved hands shot out of the shadows and grabbed her. A sharp pain on her wrist caused her to drop the dagger, and she would have cried out had one of her attacker's hands not been covering her mouth. Her back was slammed painfully into a wall and a cold touch at her throat made her freeze, as she looked into a pair of snake-like eyes.

"Now," said a cold voice. "I'm going to remove my hand. If you make any noise at all, I will not hesitate to slit your throat. Underssstood?"

Tamora nodded slightly, an involuntary shiver running up her spine, and her captor removed his gloved hand as he had promised.

"I have a few questions, if you will," Jeran said with mock politeness. "You will anssswer them with a yes or no. Nothing else." He applied slightly more pressure on the dagger in his hand as if to make a point, but not enough to pierce the skin. He didn't want to kill her, and the thin layer of poison coating the blade would finish her quickly. "You came acrosss a scholar earlier today. Yes or no."

"Yes," Tamora whispered, her voice filled with fear.

"You picked something up from hisss dead body. Yes or no."

"Yes."

"You still have it with you?"

"N-No." She winced as he glared at her, suspicious.

"If we go find your Wolf, I wouldn't find it?"

Tamora clenched her jaw at the subtle threat. "No," she said stiffly, and opened her mouth to say something else, but bit her lip at his specific instructions.

Jeran's features remained blank, but inside he was furious. He could tell she was telling the truth, and he wondered how she could have lost it in such a short time. He remembered the unconcious Wolf and her dazed look. "Do you remember what it said?"

Tamora blinked. "No."

Jeran dug his nails into the palm of his free hand. This was worse than he thought. If he didn't bring back something, then Mordred would surely kill him without hesitation. He was sure someone had attacked her and stolen it, just as he was doing now. They'd only beat him to the punch. But they'd made a big mistake. They'd left the girl alive. "Do you remember who took it then?"

The girl bit her lip. Two attacks on her in less then a few hours was more than a little irritating. She wanted to lie to him, just so he wouldn't get anywhere, but decided she'd be next to useless to him then, and he'd kill her anyways. "Yes," she seethed.

Jeran smiled coldly at her, doubly relieved that she at least had a little bit of useful knowlege. "Then I'm sure my lord would love to hear what you have to sssay." He grabbed a handful of her hair in his free hand none too gently as her eyes widened in realization of what he was going to do. Her hands shot up to protect herself, but she wasn't quick enough. He smashed her head against the wall.

Tamora couldn't help it. She cried out in pain as her head struck the hard wall behind her. Her hands scrabbled for a hold on the wall to help her stay upright as her vision flickered. Tamora felt her knees buckle, and then the darkness enveloped her.

Jeran caught the girl's limp body as it began to fall, and swung her over his shoulder. It had, indeed, been easier than he'd expected, but less rewarding than it could have been. It didn't matter anyways. As long as she knew who took it from her, and she wasn't lying, then he should have nothing to fear.
