PostSubject: Fire to Ashes   Wed Oct 08, 2008 11:32 pm

Hope as dark as new moonís night,
Casting shadows on reality.
Visions of what we know is right
Distorted by its sweet, sick melody.

It calls to us and we canít refuse
To ignite the small spark in our hearts.
A brief moment of
Warmth, alleviation, anxiousness
All at the same time
Feeding constantly off the words of others,
Only to be doused by the dark, icy waters of the truth.

His fiery fur shone
Even when there was no sun.
His golden eyes sparkled
Even as he slept.
His deep, reassuring purr rang
In the ears of those who passed.

And they shot him,
All of us unaware
What they really had injected him with:
Loss. Pain. Death.
It was nothing at first,
An unnoticeable blemish

Concealed by the fire.

I knew then as I knew now that
Hope is as dark as new moonís night,
Casting shadows on reality.
Visions of what we know is right
Distorted by its sweet, sick melody.

And yet still I hoped.
And thatís why it was all the more painful
As the fire that had warmed my heart
Turned to ashes.

I've never actually sat down and written a poem before. This is my first poem I've written outside of school, and it means a lot to me.

To fill in some people, my cat recently died. He was too special to me for words. His passing hit me deep, and I still don't think I've quite healed yet. I still think I see a flash of his fiery orange fur out of the corner of my eye. And then I remember, and, well, it hurts. So I decided to write a poem to release some of my pent up feelings. If you have anything that I could do to make it better PLEASE tell me. I'm practically begging you.

But anyways. Here it is. It's called Fire to Ashes. I thought it was appropriate since we cremated him Smile

EDIT: Oh, and a little more background info. My cat died from a rabies shot the vets gave him which gave him a tumour. Hope that clears up one of the paragraphs or whatever they're called in poetry. Kind of ironic to me. And the vets were still trying to rip us off after he died. 250$ for cremation.... So we actually went to a shelter where the cremated him for us. And the vet would have sent him there to get cremated anyways. So what is that? 200$ for a freakin' phone call? xD Ignore me. I'm ranting.

Your cat was awesome too. x3 The best cat evah!

I'll see if I can pick out some errors, but it's late, and I can't think properly right now...
